Sustainable - We are making the move

Sustainable - We are making the move

We haven't been around long but we are keen to keep moving in what we consider to be the 'RIGHT' direction.  A big part of what we want to achieve here at Rooki is to be a positive force in the world.

We have big plans for the positive impact Rooki can make and we will continually be taking steps towards this goal.  Therefore, as of today, all Rooki branded products will be sourced from providers that understand the importance of sustainability.

And when we talk about sustainability we aren't just taking about the environment.  We are talking about the people and animals that are fortunate enough to call this planet their home.

This is about the use of organic cotton in our products, the working and living conditions of the people that make our products and the use of animals within every aspect of the design, testing and production of our products.  We will try our hardest to make things fairer for all.

Will we get everything right straight away?  Sadly not but we are determined to move in the 'RIGHT' direction.  We hope you will join us in making the world a better place for all.

No feeling like NBA opening night

No feeling like NBA opening night

The wait is over, the NBA season is back.

And you have got to love the NBA league office in their scheduling.  It certainly could teach a few other leagues around the world how to create excitement.

We haven't got the brain power to go through every opening night match up in this feature (be fair, there are 13 of them).  So we are going to set our sights on the first to tip off and for us British NBA fans the most exciting, Brooklyn against Milwaukee.

You don't have to be a NBA nerd to get excited about this one.  The hosts, Milwaukee, won their first ever NBA title in modern era just 90 days ago.  They also have the phenom that is Giannis Antetokounmpo.  Much will be riding on his shoulders again this season and most don't expect him or the Bucks to reach the same dizzy heights.

In fact, the clear favourites (according to most bookies) are the visitors, the Brooklyn Nets.  That said their off-season hasn't been plain sailing with the ever increasing drama that seems to surround Kyrie Irving grabbing most of the headlines.  As it stands they will be without their all-star guard for at least the foreseeable future if not the rest of the season.

Unlike the Bucks, the Nets have strengthened in the off-season including the signing of Olympic bronze medallist Patty Mills and veteran bigman LaMarcus Aldridge.  The former brings a 2014 championship ring with him from San Antonio whilst the latter is another in the long line of ring chasers joining a super team in the hunt of jewellery.

The expectation for this first meeting of the season is a close game but surely, behind the former Thunder duo of Harden and Durant, the Nets have too much firepower for the Bucks to cope with.

Brooklyn will also be motivated by the game 7 overtime loss to the Bucks in last season's Eastern Conference Semi Finals.  That night the Nets leaned too heavy on their starting five including Durant and Harden playing every second of the 53 minutes.  That is sure to have played a part in the building of a deeper roster for this season and they will expect it to pay dividends from the opening tip.

The neutrals amongst us will hope for a close game that will go down to the wire and will hopefully signal what could be an amazing battle to be the best in the east.

The game is exclusively live on Sky Sports in the UK and tips off at 12:30am and for those mad night owls/crazy early risers it is followed by Golden State Warriors against LA Lakers at 3am.

Buckle up, the NBA rollercoaster is about to set off.

If you want to rep the Nets this season why not pick up this super rare vintage Jason Collins jersey

To enable us to bring you this huge range of products our business model means that all our products are produced to order.  This does have some down sides: 1. our delivery time can be upto 15 working days and 2. our returns policy is slightly limited so please make sure you are 100% sure of your size before you order (unless there is a defect to the product when it is delivered we are not able to accept returns).

We are one of you and as such want to hear from you.  Are there things that we should be doing but aren't?  Let us know.  Are we doing things that we shouldn't but are? Let us know.

We look forward to you joining us on this journey as we are all a Rooki.

Rooki is here to make a difference

Rooki is here to make a difference

Rooki is not here to sell cheap stuff.

If it is cheap to you, then it is likely costing the world a great deal.

Where possible, Rooki will source products that are produced in a far more sustainable and ethical manner than is the current norm.  So the good news is that Rooki products are great for the world and you can feel less guilty about treating yourself to some new clothes.

Some of the important initiatives that we are supporting include:

Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) - provides credible assurance of the organic origin of the product, as well as environmentally and socially responsible processing.  The entire organic supply chain is covered, from harvesting to manufacturing and trading, delivering credible assurance to you.

Fair Wear - products are made by producers who meet the standards set by FWF, including freely chosen employment, no child labour, no discrimination in employment, payment of a living wage, reasonable work hours and safe working conditions among others.

PETA Certified - products do not conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulations, or finished products and pledge never to do so. On top of this, the products are made from 100% vegan materials, so you can be confident that no harm came to anyone during its creation

Unfortunately, at the moment not all our products can abide by these standards.  However, you can easily see which products are and which aren't.

Here at Rooki we will continue to strive to make sure everything we do has as little negative impact on the world and the wonderful people within it as possible.  We hope that you will support us on this journey.
